Impact

Safer infusions. More time for care.

CareFlow is designed to extend the reach of every nurse, so a problem with a drip is flagged as it happens, not hours later.

Who benefits

Better for patients, nurses and facilities.

  • For patients

    • Fewer complications from undetected stops, empty bags or wrong rates
    • Faster intervention when something changes
    • Shorter hospital stays
  • For nurses

    • Far fewer manual checks, so more time for direct care
    • Less mental load across a busy shift
    • Documentation that happens automatically
  • For facilities

    • Fewer IV-related incidents and less liability
    • Better use of existing staff without adding headcount
    • A data trail for quality improvement, audits and reporting to funders and regulators

Neonatal care

Protecting the smallest patients.

Small and sick newborns, whether with dehydration, sepsis or prematurity, are especially vulnerable to IV errors and delays.

CareFlow tracks drip rate and infused volume and alerts on blockages, empty bags and rate deviations, so one nurse can monitor several babies at once. That matters most in understaffed neonatal units.

  • Alerts on blockages, empty bags and rate deviations
  • One nurse can monitor several babies
  • Aiming for faster stabilisation and better survival and recovery

The problem

IV monitoring in Malawi is almost entirely manual.

IV therapy, for hydration, medication, transfusion and nutrition, is one of the most common hospital interventions. Yet in Malawi a nurse checks the drip chamber, estimates what’s left and moves on. On busy wards, checks can be hours apart.

Most patients receive IV fluids through basic gravity sets with no automated monitoring. An unnoticed stop or a drifting rate means under- or over-infusion, with risks that can reach organ failure and cardiac arrest.

It isn’t a lack of dedication. It’s a system stretched far beyond its capacity.
