The CareFlow system

Live IV monitoring that clips onto the drip sets you already use.

A compact monitor counts every drop and streams flow, volume and time remaining to a nurse app, so the right person knows the moment a drip needs attention.

Features

Everything a busy ward needs, nothing it doesn’t.

  • Real-time flow monitoring

Flow rate, volume infused, remaining volume and estimated time to completion, updated continuously.

  • Instant alert notifications

Push alerts when flow stops, the target volume is reached or a battery runs low, even with the app closed.

  • Multi-patient dashboard

Every active session on one screen, so one nurse can keep watch over many patients.

  • Automated session logging

Each patient gets a digital IV therapy history that supports documentation and audit.

  • Non-invasive & portable

Clips across the drip chamber with no change to the line and no extra consumables.

  • Simple setup & operation

Running in minutes with minimal training. Set the drop factor once per session.

The technology

From a single drop to a live dashboard.

All hardware, firmware, cloud and app development happens in-house in Malawi.

  1. 01

    Sensor

An infrared optical sensor across the drip chamber of a standard giving set detects each drop.

  2. 02

    Firmware

Converts the drop count into flow rate and volume using the giving set’s drop factor, and drives onboard alert indicators.

  3. 03

    Cloud

Session data syncs in near real time over Wi-Fi, or over mobile data where there’s no Wi-Fi.

  4. 04

    App

Nurses see every session live and get push notifications wherever they are in the facility.

Built for Malawi

Designed for the wards it will serve.

Built from within the country, for the country, by biomedical engineers who saw the problem first-hand.

  • Keeps running through power cuts

A rechargeable battery, charged over USB, with low-battery alerts.

  • Works over mobile data

No hospital Wi-Fi needed to stay connected.

  • Fits existing practice

Works with the gravity drip sets and nursing routines wards already use.

  • Affordable to adopt

No expensive installation or specialist training, designed with public district hospitals in mind.

The app

The whole ward, at a glance.

A live view of every active session, with alerts that reach the responsible nurse first.

  • Flow rate, volume infused, remaining volume and time to completion for each patient
  • Push notifications for stopped flow, completed volume and low battery
  • Automatic session logs for documentation and audit

Development

Four prototypes, shaped by nurses.

Each iteration builds on feedback from nursing staff. Prototype 4 is the unit we’ll take into clinical testing.

    The unit for clinical testing

The CareFlow IV Drip Monitoring System is in development and is not yet approved for clinical use.

See CareFlow on your ward.

We’re looking for hospitals and clinics to pilot the system with us.
